Chernomorets is a resort village in southeast Bulgaria. It is in Sozopol Municipality, Burgas Region. The name of the village used to be Sveti Nikola (St. Nikolas) until 1951.
Chernomorets is 24 km southeast of Burgas on the southern coast of the large Burgas Bay. The village has a superb position in a kind of hollow near the shore, on a small bay by the sea.
The small bay, which in old times the Greeks used to call Agios Nicholas (St. Nicholas), has the shape of a horseshoe with its opening facing the north. It was the bay that gave the village its name – until 1951 Chernomorets was called Sveti Nikola. Sozopol and the Island of St. ivan are to the east. The village is situated on beautiful shores, resembling a blooming flower.
The foot of eastern Strandzha Mountains and the slightly undulating relief reveal a magnetic panoramic view – your eyes meet Cape Emine in the north and Arkutino in the south.
The climate is milder than in the rest of the region – the summer temperatures of the water are between 20 and 260Ñ and of the air - 26-300 Ñ.
The picturesque scenery and the warm caressing sunshine turn the village into a divine nook drawing you to idyll and calmness.
One of the sights of Chernomorets is the Garden of Eden and the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas. The Garden of Eden is in front of the very church. The church is a new one-floor building. In 1994 it was destroyed by fire and only a wooden cross and an icon of St. Nicholas were rescued. The money for the restoration of the building was supplied by the local inhabitants.
